The Greatest First Love

They say true love never dies
And that you never stop loving your first love

So what if your first love is your true love

Because they are the first one you give all of yourself to

They are the first ones you trust with your heart
The first ones you give the power to destroy you

And the first ones who do

So you become jaded, you learn to never be that vulnerable again

You learn some things are best kept safe within

So you never give all of yourself again

You never risk the pain again
And you never risk that kind of love again

So you live the rest of your life trying your best to find some sort of resemblance of that one great love
But also never letting yourself get too close to the fire, to those butterflies with wings like knives in your chest

Always carrying a ghost in your heart
