Bryton Holley Biography

I've lived in some very different places. I grew up in Texas, the place of my birth, until I was seven. A few days after I turned seven, my family moved to Sudan, pre-break. That would have been in 2004, I think. We moved back in 2006 due to political problems between my family and the government. We moved back to Waco, Texas, where we lived for almost nine years, before moving to Portugal. I'm somewhat new to this whole poetry thing. I mean, I always knew that I had some talent with the written word, but I only recently started exercising it. So, be gentle. All poems are copyrighted by Bryton Holley. All rights reserved.)

Tiny Dancer

Start dancing, tiny dancer
And fill your heart with glee,
Though you lost your innocence
You haven't paid the fee.

The taxman's come, and gone away,
Asking payment of thee,
But though you had much to give,
You always tried to flee.

The masses came, and stripped away,
And put you on your knee.
And though they took your self-esteem
You never made a plea.

They pushed you back into a cage,
And threw away the key,
But keep dancing, tiny dancer,
'Cause inside you know you're free.
