Yesterday's Demons

Cut the deck and play your hand,
Gamble with love, but understand.
The immaculate prince who sings with the band
Is not trading today in sympathy.

The angel of mercy flies out the door,
As you fall to your knees on the hardwood floor.
You cry from the pain, but there’s only more,
And scream to the moon, “Oh God, why me? ”

The harlequin preacher stands at your gate,
Offering hope, but arriving too late.
With Bible and prayer, he challenges fate.
To him you have nothing to say.

Awake in the morning and rise from bed,
Recalling the love and words that were said.
Yesterday’s demons that danced in your head
Grow pale in the light of day.
