The Line

I'm walking on a line between the ocean and the sand just like I'm walking on a wire in the circus. Somewhere inside me, within me, is an answer. An answer to all my problems. Through the thick of blood, the river of life,I can find the answer. Cut too little and you get a slight wave from the ocean making the land feel safer. Too little and the troubles of the land will come and take you back. Cut too much and the ocean will engulf you, swallowing you whole, leaving nothing but a corpse on the beach. The right amount is the soothing, waist-high waves that keep the sands from the beach away, while at the same time, the shallow sand keeps the larger waves at bay. I walk a very thin line but it gets thicker and thicker each day. The ocean calls to sooth you from the sands. But I fear that I am going further and further into the ocean, feeling the pulse of the ocean numbing myself. I may go too far one day, but for now, this is deep enough.
