Bumblebee Physics

Sipping root beer
On a bench by the fountain
Of a bronze woman drawing water with a scallop shell
My attention turned to a bumblebee
Preening rose petal wings
Brick body sputtering
Determined to take flight
I took a stick and helped it off its back
It would not give up
What does a bumblebee know of aerodynamics?
Then I noticed its crumpled wing
Threadbare as the statue's clinging wet dress
