The Younger Cat

a silent hop up
tentative steps onto my shoulder as she passes
and again
she does this two times, or four
pressing for moments against my knee
changing her mind, rising and pacing
another careful step on my shoulder
throaty murmur passing close to my ear
tail brushing as an afterthought against my eyelids
finally to curl into her groove between us
trusting massive parents whose sleeping forms protect her from the world.

this is a good spot.
