The Effects Of Causes

We were so young in our delirious cages,
we accepted danger as rage against aging.
Play a melody of uselessness,
a symphony of apathy.

A fragment of an antique song flashes into consciousness:

'Barely legal in their lethal tavern,
cavemen in their licensed cavern.'

The memory evokes cinematesque sadness.

The whiteness blinds us
as sunlight tricks morning
brightness to bleach bleak mourning.
Light so vivid to wake day dawning,
sunrise was a long time coming.

We were young, we were eternal.
That for us, was cause enough.
