A Failed Attempt

There's one thing that I have not done, I've
never wrote a poem, but it sounds like fun.
So I'll get out my paper and my ballpoint pen,
then I'll pull up a chair and let the fun begin.
Should I write about a ship sailing out to sea,
or should I write about a lion roaming wild and free?
I could write about a mountain that no one can climb,
but how in the world can I make things rhyme?
Does leaf sound anything at all like tree?
Does coffee sound anything at all like tea?
Should I write about a rich man rising to fame,
or should I write about a beggar with nothing to claim?
I could write about an eagle soaring just beneath a cloud,
if I only had a word that would rhyme with proud.
Does push sound anything at all like shove?
Does puppy sound anything at all like love?
I started out thinking there was nothing to this,
but now I see I can never do this.
So I'll put away my paper and my ballpoint pen,
and I will not attempt to write another poem again.
I gave it a try, and I took my time,
but I just couldn't get the verses to rhyme.
