Ernestine Northover Poems

I've been entered in a three-legged race,
And somehow, I'm tied up to Jane,
Oh goodness me, Oh, No! No! No! ,
She's fallen down again.

The young couple glided out onto the floor,
He was looking so elegant, and she even more,
Her wide flowing dress of a beautiful green,
Was swaying and swirling, a sight to be seen.

He never was there, he never did care,
He treated me contemptuously,
I thought now he'd gone, that I'd look upon,
This time, as a bonus, for me.

I'm a child again,
as memories come flooding back.
Here I am standing outside my old school
which is due to be demolished for something more modern.

Exchanging my days of quill and ink,
To a computer is a must I think,
The favourite of the current age,
Is just the thing I need, I guage.

Mirror, mirror on the wall,
Why do I look in you, at all,
For all I see is the same old me,
And not how I so want to be.

I opened up a Bible, and there between the pages,
A rose had been secreted, it must have been there ages,
I wondered who had so placed it, displaying still its magenta red,
For remembrance perhaps, or a memento, sweet petal's carefully spread.

I stepped over the rickety wooden stile,
and entered a meadow of sweetness.
Clover, daisies and buttercups
all intermingled in a silent chorus of song.

Legs, Shoulders, Ribs and Shanks,
Chops, Sirloins, Breasts and Flanks,
These are all 'meats' of the Butcher's trade,
Where lots of delicious 'things' are made.

Pencil it in, if you're not really sure,
Then if you're not happy, you may want to withdraw,
But I'm sure upon reflection, this is just what you need,
Studying your requirements, of which I have taken heed,
