I laugh when i hear them say God's on our side
And on our great achievements we can take great pride
Another war victory we can celebrate
But then some of our egos not hard to inflate

Perhaps i enjoyed my few seconds of fame
When the beautiful lady she called me by name
The warmth of her greeting with me it did stay
And she surely did help for to brighten my day

A two hundred and fifty kilometres firefront is burning through Victoria East
Blackening the environment and dispossessing human, bird and beast
Clogging the sky with gray fog for hundreds of kilometres around
And only blackened desolation where it has been through to be found.

I read it on the internet how Noel Hartnett had died
At fairs and marts in Munster he was known far and wide
A warm hearted fellow and in him nothing cold
A million calves in his life he must have bought and sold.

Lets hear it for women a huge hip hooray
They are the unsung heroines of today
We need them as leaders to educate men
With wise women as leaders less wars for to win

It is not a barking puppy that you hear
By the lake shore in the shallows very near
To where you stand it is the black and white bird over there
The long legged one the pied stilts are not rare

If Peter Barling came to Warrnambool today
He would miss the pub known as 'The Lady Bay'
For holiday flats to be built there the pub was knocked down
And the changes are happening in Peter's Hometown.

In the twilight of my life only darkness ahead
And in a decade or two from now i may be dead
