The Whale

Sliding through the blue, down to the night
up through the tears, to forgiving daylight
take a breath when i can, filling my lungs
the air rushes into the abyss, my heart starts to skip a beat

back to the deep, to the dark, to the cold
my pounding heart starts to deliver, the slow, deafening thump
echoing through the decades, awaiting the final pump

being a large solitary creature is easy
nature wanted it so
bring me friendship and i would tell you no

who can hurt me? nobody
who can want me? nobody
who can admire me? everybody

i will be here when the floods start to clear
i will be here when the ice starts to thaw
i will be here when the clouds start to scatter
i will be here when the big drum clatters
until then, that final pump, the final thump, the final sickly note
i will keep scanning the purgatory of my sorry soul, praying
for something to take away my longing, my longing

i have had my laughs, sometimes aloud in a kind of insane isolation themed private joke
which only leaves me spent and reminded of the continous thump that i thrive,
i thrive to continue my journey across gods seas, these cold neurotic seas, then return
spanning what those infant sized creatures might believe to be
a distance only measured by god
who himself is immeasurable, and lives in every language,
and every tear, every hope, every fear
was it him that left me this huge scar larger than my belief
belief in the heart that keeps my burden warm and true

i forgive your past, can you forgive mine?
as i live out all our lives in my forsaken isolation which
which is what i want, just to want
