In Steelband Land

The sun rose one morning,
And bellowed to a cloud;

Did you hear him?

“Let your rain fall on Poui
Saturating her greenness
Into blooms so many”

Did you hear him?
Did you know this?

For kiskadee who bare,
So ashamedly her belly would,
Coy at the splendor of
Your munificence;

Did you hear him?
Did you know this?
Would you believe?

And kites flying high,
From yards of string,
Wishing to fly higher;
Would stop to gape,
And tangled be,
In her fragrance;

Did you hear him?
Did you know this?...

The Rain

Of the rain the Word has said
To us he giveth in due season
And in the Word i also read
Of his might and of his reason

The rain to water the earth
Our crops he will sustain
Trees planted not in dearth
Rooted firm they will remain
