Full of bumps and poholes;

Upon it with careful dread,

A youth unbowed by failure's storms
Upon this world still roams,
Hoping to cling to the prospect of uncertain chance,
That dwindles as he continues to grope in trance,

A sturdy heart by sorrow unbent
And a staunch will by solitude not weathered,
That rose from failure to failure without relent
To sit upon the pedestal of the world unfettered;

DAY AND NIGHT

Day and night must testify of my labors,
And have to appraise the passing of hours
...

I must swear the oath of toil,
And adjust my wicks to kiss the oil
That my lamps may stay aglow
Amidst the pervasive darkness that clothes all.
