Harthman Carpio Munteanu Poems

I knew her for a little ghost
That in my soul have walked;
The walls were high - higher than most,
And the big gate was locked.
...

Too much I feel, too much I see,
Some babies crying by that tree,
With muddy hands and blooded skin
Too much the pain they take within…
...

My precious one, to me so dearest, I so my love guide toward you
No ways I find to break the mist from which I say these words so true;
And even though I may seem shallow and poor in treasures of the mind,
I came here now and did I follow this ray of light that helped when blind...

I must confess to you my dearest
Bowing my head before your beauty,
Within the sight of your perfection
Nothing will ever stand up straight

5.

I just watched you walking through that
pointless door
And your shadow seemed to be
scratching my floor
...

Am I close enough for...
you?
Close enough to...
let me love you?

And even though I looked at you
And past my hand upon your face
I never thought I could receive
This harsh from you and haste

I tried to see -of all the things I...
longed to understand of you,
And my mistake was to absorb just in the way you wanted to-
The answers to the question “Why? ”,

Her mood

when she comes,

I wish I’d be a stone
That you could sit upon;
I wish I’d be the air
run-passing through your hair;

“you write beautifully
but now
nobody sees us
strip off your rhymes

I do, somehow, remember that I’ve been here before –
I recognized the color and sound of this old door –
So odd it seems to me and… all at once… so good
To find a piece of you in this forgotten wood

What does it mean I can not see the eyes
of the one I’m so in love with?
What does it mean I can not embrace
the being of the one I so long for?

Where do you go?
What do you need?
What are you looking for?
You turned out to be so automatic

A Little Ghost

I knew her for a little ghost
That in my soul have walked;
The walls were high - higher than most,
And the big gate was locked.

And yet I did not think of that
Till after she was gone;
I knew her by the way she walked,
The smile that she had on.

She had no shoes but just bare feet
And her small hands just hung;
Her skin was white and it smelled sweet,
And birds I heard who sung.

I watched to see if she would stay,
What she would do; and oh!
She looked as if she liked the way
I let my soul all grow!

She bent to taste my favorite wine
With conscious knowledge grace;
She smiled and sighed - there was no sign
Of sadness on her face.

She held her dress on either side
To let her ankles show,
And up the walk she went with pride,
The way great ladies go.

And where the wall was built in new
She had a whim so mere.
She paused; then opened and passed through
A gate that once was there.
