I worked at J.D's grocery store
I packed them full, I opened doors
I liked my jobs' simplicity
And no one ever yelled at me

A soldiers blood drops heavy on the wood pile

Virtue has its power
In the hour glass I slip to

The Crash That Killed Me

I worked at J.D's grocery store
I packed them full, I opened doors
I liked my jobs' simplicity
And no one ever yelled at me

I worked a very special job
Called project 50
Not for my age
For people with special gifts like me
I say this now, apparently

I remember the day like it was yesterday
My pill case lay open and perched on the kitchen tv
I was watching Klinger from mash,
I loved that guy
I couldn't leave
I had to see the color of his dress
I had a book where I'd recorded it
A book of facts that were all mine
Where I controlled what went into it
Even though others controlled my mind
This was mine this little thing
This hilroy tote 325
they could not take it away from me

Or so I thought
Until my roommate in a rage
Tore it from these hands of mine
Into the street I chased him down
The ones that took us to movie shows and out for walks, they yelled at us
They yelled out 'Stop, stop the both of you! '
That's the last sound I heard aside from sirens and them saying that I died
I'm dead I thought I'm dead
The milkman is cupping my head!
My head hurt something awful, but I don't think I'm dead
There had to be a dozen neighbors there
I trick or treated at their doors

'He was such a kind boy too.'

The postman asked what happened and Mrs. Shaw confirmed it.
'It was little Jimmy Smith from the group home! Run out in front of the milkman and he got him good, he's dead as a door nail!
That's it I thought, enough of this
I jumped up I pointed at my chest or at least I thought I did
I told them and told them I wasn't dead
They looked through me like I was invisible
Then I noticed Tommy laying there with my scribbler on his chest
'Ah huh'
Jesus I thought Tommy don't look to good
I walked over and grabbed my Hilroy 325
I wondered if it was tuna Tuesday
On my walk back to the house
