I miss you
but the words sound strange in my mouth
on my lips,
making no sound
as they fall
slowly
so slowly
until they hit the ground
and bounce
You catch them
at the last second
quickly
slyly
as if hoping
i will not notice
but need the words pressed into your heart
and you told me
that you do not stay over night
because your mind tricks you
into believing
that this may just work
(but it tricks me too)
and i'm the one left crying
as you nearly run out the door
to meet your
so-called prince
in his tarnished, stolen armor,
no weapons to his name besides
illusion and deception
but i kiss you goodbye
and i see the heat
travel
light up your eyes
and lower
as you look away
hoping i do not see
but i do
I love you
i scream
but nothing is said
and the door slams behind you
