His Heart's Shattering

Every second, every minute, every hour, every day
she wait for him to come out of his shell
that he formed over summer break
when they parted that year
and broke the promise they made to each other
and,
nothing would ever be the same.

He walks right by his love
and watches her turn her head from him.
It bothers him more than anything
to see her so apathetic.
He knows he did this to himself
and to her
and to his life with her.

What he doesn't know
is the pain she takes for him
and how bad it hurts to see him
with them
because he's blind when he's with them
but when she's around
he sees light for the first time.
