disrespecting cops.

Spoken to me by friends,
whispered by my family.
Offered by passing acquaintances,
given freely by strangers.

Unknown, unseen, unheard.
Assigned by God?
Obliged by blood?
Serving penance for a crime?
...

She wears her warm smile-
feigning cool disinterest,
he watches, helpless.
...

Still, among the reed-
seeking fish but finding none,
he finds his own peace.
...

Dawn rises, weeping -
grey clouds melt beneath noon sun,
promise of summer.

A stumble, a fall-
courage to risk another,
strength to rise again.
