Joseph Brown Biography

I was born and raised in the bayou. In the summer of 1999, my family moved to Augusta, Ga. where I attended 4 different high schools. On June 6,2006 I rode a plane for the first time, to which I was headed to Memphis, Tn to attend Job Corps. I completed the program in May of 2007 with a certification in Accounting. Since then, I've lived in Chicago, Atlanta, Washington DC, Alexandria, Va., Norfolk, Va., and now I'm currently living in New York, NY. I love to read poetry because it gives me an in-depth look into a person's being.)

Bird In The Sky

I am the bird in the sky
that's been soaring for the longest time
I am in the wind, never to come down
Too high to ever touch the ground
Flying past all that was me
giving up everything I once had
and all that I came to be
I've burdened pain so much
but now I'm able to fly - high
too high to be touched
I am the bird in the sky
I've let go of guilt and all lies
Hatred and sorrow no longer fills these eyes
I've spread both my wings
no longer being bound by those strings
and took flight, whether I was wrong or right
there's no longer a distinction between the two
cause my life has turned anew
So I spread my wings and take flight
all thoughout the day and night
And I continue to fly high
without knowing how or why
I continue being the bird in the sky
