Karissa Harbuck Poems

Slowly Invading
Growing bigger and brighter

Modern America calls your name
...

A mirror on the shelf
Inverted, to look at your inside

Borrow the strength
...

Pull me in close
The sea is vast and sharp
Hold me there,
Inside your heart
...

Explain the inexplicable
Explain it the best you can
Call up the Pope
Tell him to connect me to God
...

Freely she dances
Her body flowing, no effort
The world seems to stop
The time is only moving
...

Liberation through cleansing tears
Is the only request this time
Let me free myself mentally
Although I’m locked away here, tight
...

American Nightmare

Slowly Invading
Growing bigger and brighter

Modern America calls your name

The American dream
Dripping with contempt

Hard to obtain,
But still so soft to the touch

Constructed in your head
While wishing for a break
from the relentless heat
And analyzing the situation
influenced by your dreams

The American dream
Dripping with contempt

The dripping is complex
With hints of blood, red, and blue
The drippings, they collect
From the glorified dream,
That is just an empty net
For the hopeless happiness
That only lasts,
Not long enough.
