Kath Hochh Poems

Late night, tired, wired. Quiet.
Not a car heard in the distance
Just the heat that's near.
Strange... there're no crickets?
...

Part of me feels like telling him where it all was wrong,
but what good does that do? None.
What's done is done. Just stop making
the same mistakes, again and again.

Late Night

Late night, tired, wired. Quiet.
Not a car heard in the distance
Just the heat that's near.
Strange... there're no crickets?
Only the faint buzzing
Of air conditioner units!

How scary the world seems sometimes
Not sure I want my girls to know.
Hope all goes well on their watch
And adulthood has a chance to flourish.
Mother Earth, please, do not succumb!
To the stupidity of men!

As infants we were helpless to your reign,
As adolescents selfish to proclaim...
We knew you oh so well. Now, as adults we've only just begun
To surrender to our damage and the truths
Of your vast - NOT infinite - but fragile balance.

Late night, tired, wired. Quiet.
Diamonds in the sky so high.
As I lay me down to sleep,
Pray the Lord our souls to keep.
