Katie Morningstar Poems

Mom,
There is so much I owe you
much overdue I'm sure
but this is my deepest tribute my memories alive and pure.
...

In the spring of my life
I stood to please
shaking life from every vein...
...

Brown eyes that dance in the evening light
Frustrated love like moths light
Among a mother that could not see..
Thesong of flutterby, or daisy.
...

What do you want me to say?
That I blessed the sacred act of murder?
That for you last garden?
You planted a seed of satanic curd?

A Tribute To My Mother Dying Young

Mom,
There is so much I owe you
much overdue I'm sure
but this is my deepest tribute my memories alive and pure.

When I was young it took so little
a hug, a smile, a laugh
I sensed my soul was part of yours
in a realm of being no one could defile.

I remember the feel of your flowered robe
and the conforting touch of your hand
stroking my head as you sang us to sleep
I knew we would meet in "dreamland."

You told us the story of Daisy
and showed us her cocoon
you walked with me through dew-drenched fields
as hounds bayed under the tranquil moon

Sometimes, we would charge inside
euphoric and starry eyed
to show you some new creature
show off the bug, the butterfly.

You LOVED, and embraced the wonder
of fresh life from a childs view
through us you re-experienced
pure joy, and creation renewed.

I learned from you the inner truth
the foundation of my deepest core
EVERY LIFE, HOWEVER SMALL, IS SACRED
THE ESSENCE OF BEING IS PURE.

You held me as the breezes blew
and the thunderheads rolled in
enraptured by the awesome power
of all that is, or has ever been.

The echoes of self felt in a timeless song
were the harp of your soul - a spirit resounds
A chorus which shared with your transcendent soul
the epiphany of oneness, as peace and god surround.

One night, we sat, drenched in silence
and stars and melancholy still
expectantly waiting in breathless drama
for the call of the whiporwill.

The whiporwill sings of longing and freedom
youth and loves much mourned
she sings for the great grandeur
the prefection, renewal of nature adorned.

So the whiporwhils song is your knowing
your soul plays every chord
the lessons of pain, separation and growing
the promise of growth and epiphany restored.

I recognize the power of your strength in me
fighting spirit, rebellious, illuminating, strong
WHAT WONDROUS FATE TO BE BORN OF YOU...
two kindred spirits empowered by the sameness of their song.
