My First Poem Of The Year

Alone in the house with no one to talk to
Thanks to the storm there was no electricity
And so no TV to watch too
I searched through my drawer for
Something to read through
To drive away boredom maybe I should write too

Finally I decided to settle for my poem book
Like every other thing in that drawer it was dusty too
Wiping off the dust I wondered how long it’s been
Since I settled down to write a poem in it
Then suddenly I knew I had to write again

With a pen in my rusty hand I wondered in vain
Trying to think of a good reason to write again
Suddenly my phone rang and my God!
It was I distraction I could do without
Nevertheless I had to pick up cos it was U
I heard you say hello, and then it occurred to me
I should be writing about U

Looking at the page of the poem book before me
I was shocked to realize that all this while
Ave been thinking with my pen
But even though my first poem of the year
Wasn’t about U
Am sure the second will be
