Ashes

When frail thoughts collapse,
On ashes from a war,
Waged in your head,
The embers will burn,
Your eyes, your cries,
Go unheard,
For the screaming is all inside.

I'm thrown to the scavengers of this city,
When all I want to do is rise above,
I give in to their whims,
And as they devour me,
They set my cold heart free.
