The Reason Why

My tears are burning my cheek as they run
Running from the pain kept inside
Trying to escape and let loose the feelings of which I hide
Covered by the mask of shame and lies
Slowly suffocating as the air turns stale and dry
Trying to find my way out before I lose my mind
Thinking it was all over, not gonna make it out alive
Crying to Jesus, oh why? oh why?
And as I tilt my head up, all I saw…
Was my mothers eyes
I saw her struggle and what she endured time after time
To make sure I could live a better life
To have a better story to tell then hers
How could I be so blind?
She is there with me entwined with my soul
So that I am no longer alone
Lifting off the mask with her fingers of truth and understanding
So I can once again breathe a breath divine
So I can truly understand
