Mermaid
In the dawn
I was a mermaid
I saw beauty and peace
inside the calm dark muddy water
I grew and walked the land
Where I met a man
He saw mystique in my
water colored eyes
that only drowned him
in his own lies
When my beauty faded
he threw me back
to where I came
My mystery
was unvailed
and to the sharks
he gave
This new water
was cold and unfamiliar
To land my flippers
adapted again
Many men saw my pain
and beauty
and drew the light from me
to feed the ego within
New waters I am in search of again
but when I did
I soiled it
by bringing the world
I now knew with me
The salt stung my eyes
eyes that no longer
were made to see the truth
And I am on my search again
for calm dark muddy waters
that warmed my tail fins
