Unbreakable

You stand tall on the ground
California quakes hit you hard
Every time you shake
but never fall
Sturdy and unbreakable
you live up to your name; the redwood
Every quake is a trial for you
Although your branches may break
you never fall
You persist and stay strong through it all
And even though you are well known
most don't know the depths of your history
It has been a blur of shaky days and woodpeckers pecking away at you
Picking away at your already damaged branches
scavenging for the life inside you
the pieces of you that help you reach such great heights
they crave your roots
yet you let them live
You take care of those around
even when if it kills you
You stay strong and do all that you know how to do; grow
