While Robbie Williams has proven his ability hundredfold to craft sensible pop songs, his last four studio albums Swing When You're Winning (2001) , Escapology (2002) , Intensive Care (2005) , and Rudebox (2006) are outstandingly indicative of Robbie Williams' progressive talent and range. He fearlessly explores style and limit by delving into pop standards, hip-hop, blue-eyed soul, and the often absurd. (He pulls off a cover of French pop star Manu Chao's Latin bouncer 'Bongo Bong/Je Ne T'Aime Plus' with dignified aplomb.) Mysteriously, he still has yet to make a significant dent in the American pop scene. But no hurry, Robbie. It would only ruin you anyway. |
