Rat Race

The rats have all lined up
with their tails held up.
The spectators and jury
gathered for race of century.

Big rats, small rats,
brainy rats and lazy rats.
Lean rats, mean rats,
ugly rats and crazy rats.

As the gun fires in air
rats run amok everywhere.
Spectators whistle and clap
seeing rats run to the trap.

Big rat pounces on small rat
Lean rat prostrates over floor flat.
Mean rat lame with broken foot
and lazy rat all set to loot.

Crazy rat runs out of its mind
not knowing what to find.
Heat of the race mounts on
Sheer greed lead the rats on.

Brainy rat takes the lead
Runs straight to place of feed.
Only to find that ugly rat
has stolen the prize before that.

Enjoying the utter confusion
onlookers dance in intoxication
disperse after the commotion
shooting the jury in frustration.

As the ugly rat in glory yells
for brainy rat life becomes hell.
To end its agony, jumps into a well.
Of course it suffices to tell
all is well that ends in a well!
