When the sound of the cricket
Is heard in the land
I know fall is not far behind.
What use to be the "Harvest call"

A house of cards
is easy to build
No foundation is laid
No cement to strengthen the walls

I'Ve Heard That Song Before

When the sound of the cricket
Is heard in the land
I know fall is not far behind.
What use to be the "Harvest call"
Now seems more rarified -- to all.
I love that sound which school time brings
Reminding me of winter things,
A trip to snow bound land and family grand--
How can a soul remain complete
In this terrible, terrible summer heat!
"Twas it not for memories so sweet
I couldn't survive
Summer's long intrepid days
And nights whose relief
Dispares her ways.
So bring on the crickets
And let them sing--
Enjoy the heat, if you must
I'm dreaming of better things--
