Phoenix Rising

In the midst of life, I am nearly in death;
Slowly drifting and out of touch from the world outside.
In desperation and conflicting emotions,
A sonorous quell overwhelms my fervor;
Numbing coldness blankets my soul.
I stood at the edge and gazed down into the gaping abyss.
Oh, hope where are you as I shake the palms of despondence?

My heart jumps and bumps the rails of the ribcage imprisoning it.
Suddenly a familiar sound resonates along the cortex of my brain;
Music to my ears, calming my nerves.
The warmth of love, the vote of strength…
A hanging bridge of connection, a rope full of notes…
The bright foreigner in my life…
Reaching out and singing at the top of his lungs.

Alone no more, cold no more, blind no more
I see you, I feel you, I know you,
I hear you loud and clear as a cascade.
A wave of calmness engulfed melancholy,
A pull of hope rescued my drowning spirit.
I am home and loved and cared for.
Finally, a cry of deliverance!
