    Mark, this poem (as your bio) is itself a gem. It says better than I something I just tried to say in a new effort of mine. ('Lines') Whenever we choose to write ourselves in lines, if we're fortunate we learn more about ourselves, and lots of other things, too. Your joy and your pleasure communicate with readers, and for that we are grateful.

    (One of our sons lives in Canberra. We've always intended to make it on to NZ one of these days. Now our travel is severely hampered by my health, so we probably won't make it, but my friends and children tell me what a gracious place it is. Cheers!)

Shadow Of Sorrow

Only those in the shadow of sorrow
Know the meaning of real despair
For the darkness so cast on their spirit
Is a darkness found only in there
And a light all the world takes for granted
Is a light by not one of them seen
For the shadow its terrible covering
Is cruelly placed in between.

And the sorriest of souls on the outside
Might a rhythm of sympathy start
And the warmest embrace from a neighbour
Might its message of comfort impart
But the shadow its hold unrelenting
Still divides and keeps distant relief
And those hearts under cover of ...
