Marnie O'Brien Poems

I’ve seen my Dark Mistress
Force wheels to the sky.
Caressed her cheek
Before closing her eyes.
...

Settle me down
To the last hour of the day.
To when the anxious moment’s lift’d,
And I can still see your face.
...

I’ll keep your pebble in my pocket,
For there are larger stones to throw.
Gladly fall to sacrifice,
For a scarcely pioneering blow.
...

Could not breath in your presence,
Nor could I utter a sound.
Wind stolen from my sails,
Til helplessly run aground.

Dark Mistress

I’ve seen my Dark Mistress
Force wheels to the sky.
Caressed her cheek
Before closing her eyes.
Led her to light
Before watching her die.
I’ve expelled air
Into lungs that were naught.
Denied life
To a choice that She brought.
I’ve heard suffering and wail.
Felt poignance and Proust.
I’ve made infinite sacrifice
Whilst bound to a purse.
Lo, my Mistress has cursed,
And stomped, and
Demanded free reign.
Yet to this day
I have not.
