The Dublin taxis splash up and down Parnell Square,
Until they die out one by one as the city goes to sleep.

At four pm waiting your turn
Over by the ATM;
Etched on the cut stone facade
Of the Bank of Ireland,

So clear the crystal pool beneath the leaves,
Showing how they've bloomed and changed;
They're just girl friends at school once more,
Conversing as if they had never gone away.

The mild languor of a passing lady’s look,
Her brown eyes half veiled by the breeze
As she cruised casually past our cool café
On her way to Coogee beach, burned me.

Overseas
