If Only...

There was a way to show you –
You understood.
The clock waited for one
Moment in time;
One more sacrifice, one
More adventure.
We were together –
The sun was warm and the night long
The salt freshly on your damp skin
Sand stuck to your feet, hot and burning
Like my fire, you burn to dust
I wait for the morning to find you here
Your lips soft and tender,
Your eyes wide and full, flecks of light
Bouncing to mine – your skin soft and warm
Mine cool and thirsty, much like my hollow
Tree – the one I’ll climb with you
To the last bounds of the universe.
Your smile suggesting there’s more to
Life than all that is.
You were my utopia - and
You knew.
