Gold

There is gold above, and gold below.
The clouds are a gold brocade
And are fringed with gold, and do you know?
They are stitched with a golden braid.

And thick on the moss of Golden Acre
The little gold stars look up,
And over the fields the generous Maker
Has sprinkled the buttercup.

Gold on the sparkling river sand,
And Grandmother's daffy-down-dilly,
And God has touched with His shining hand
The beautiful gold-band lily.

Golden bells in the early spring,
And goldenrod in the fall,
And a golden robin to sweetly sing,
And the sun is a golden ball.

Golden dreams when the day is done
Of dawn and a new tomorrow,
When the golden light of the golden sun
Will break through a cloud of sorrow.

Oh, there is always the shine of gold
Where tired eyes may settle -
An over-abundance to have and hold,
And not a burdensome metal.

The gold of a purse is hard to keep:
It will slip away in an hour.
But all season long, new gold will creep
On many a blossoming flower.
