Winter

Flowering trees give way to naked branches
Summer days to frosty chill
The days once long and golden
Fight an ever advancing cloak of darkness

Bubbling brooks and rushing rivers
Subdued by an icy plateau
The soil once teeming with abundance
Gives way to silence

For an age to come
The eye discerns all life is gone
Yet for a season
It is just waiting
Until winters work is done
