Paul Holmes Poems

Whenever I feel sad
And life’s troubles wear me down
I just look upon her face
And no longer wear a frown.
...

He stood at the bus stop

Black coat soaking wet,
...

Ruby and emerald and sapphire
Are the gems of his attire,
Clothed in an iridescent glow,
Like fragments of a rainbow.
...

Imagine having 29,000 in the bank!
To a child how rich he would be!
What would he spend it on?
No guessing, it’s no mystery!
...

Walking on white
Powder soft sand
My footprints
Left impressions,
...

There happened to be an Elephant with purple skin
Which caused many a little child, to laugh and to grin?
They considered it so strange, and so ‘out of place’
That, a cheeky smirk ne’er left each mischievous face.
...

A piece of my heart died today
As I saw a yellow leaf fall from a tree
Reminding me of that day so grey
When Death took my friend from me.
...

Gently falling from
The midnight sky

A sliver of silver
...

Does your love write notes
On the bathroom mirror in the steam?
Messages of affection
That will not fade as a dream?
...

One among billions
Unique silver crystal
Floating
In a turquoise sky
...

In a hushed, darkened room
There’s a silence all around,
A group of children and parents
Sit quietly, making no sound.
...

JANUARY

Delightful display
Of snowdrops bowing white heads
...

Encompassed in a concrete enclave
Choking fumes swirl all around;
Long shadows steal the sunlight
And yet, firmly it stands its ground.
...

Carried on a soft whisper
Of a breeze
Little bubbles float aloft,
Delighting little children
...

Can there be a more beautiful Snowflake
To rest upon your pink nose
Yet melt almost immediately
Like frost on a fragile Rose?
...

A wisp of blue
Morning mist
Caresses the mirrored lake
As a pale yellow sun
...

Go on, you deserve it,
You’ve had a stressful night,
Have a day in the duvet,
And perhaps a pillow-fight!
...

A streak of blue lightning
Across a babbling brook
Takes me unawares
That moment that I look

Her Smile Makes Me Smile

Whenever I feel sad
And life’s troubles wear me down
I just look upon her face
And no longer wear a frown.

Whenever the cold rain
Pours and saturates the ground
It’s then that I sense sunshine
Each time that she’s around.

Her smile makes me smile,
And I feel so pleased to be
In the same room as her,
In her close proximity.

Her smile makes me smile
At people that pass me by;
There’s a spring in my step
And a twinkle in my eye.
