Another Side

Through reflections of youth and the time on dad's knee
The hunger subsided from mom feeding me
All my years not to worry of future to be
Is a side of my parents I was too young to see

A firm hand mistaken, for anger back then
Ignorance thinking that hurt couldn't mend
And knowing now, they had my back in the end
Is the side of my parents I now see as friends

Black and white photos with big goofy smiles
Haircuts and clothing that's so "out of style"
Times with my family, if just for a while
The side of my parents I'd seen as a child

In a world that's expanding and nothing is free
I'll show thanks for blessings and time spent with thee
As age and sore joints are revealing to me
A side of my parents I don't wish to see

"Heaven"—is what I cannot reach!
The Apple on the Tree—
Provided it do hopeless—hang—
That—"Heaven" is—to Me!
