I’d Sooner Hear The Bang

of the great cataclysmic crunch
see our very own mushroom farm sprout
(somewhere near Israel, probably)
and spread just like mushrooms do

sooner that please than the whimper
that will attend our certain end
as we shuffle off like dogs
(beaten
yet still making sure every other species
gets dragged with us)

bang or whimper

I’d prefer the bang

but either way

I know one thing
when finally a piece of charcoal is wheeling its way around the sun
eternally wheeling, eternally

then whatever’s left is gonna sigh
(with some sadness maybe
but
mostly
with
relief)
