Lilac Wine

I Lay My Heart Under The Weeping Willow

I lay my heart under the shade of the weeping willow
For the weeping willow weeps with me
I feel the gentle caresses of the breeze upon my face
I raise my face towards the sun
Just as I had turned my face to yours
The sun strokes my skin so warm and tenderly
Like your loving words on my grazed heart
Teasing away the pains of a love gone wrong

The branches billow in the wind around me
For the weeping willow dances with me
Dancing away to my hearts melancholy song
Caressing and soothing with each move
I close my eyes and embrace the moment
Just as I had once welcomed your warm loving enfold
I let the tears fall to wipe out the pain
As the clouds gather and the sunlight begins to fade
Those happy memories begin to leave me
I realise your promises were nothing but lies

I listen to the sound of the brook as it flows within my reach
I gently stir the cool water as it ripples around my toes
Life stands still in the delicate heartbeat of a moment
Paralysed in the balance of truth and time
Peace in its darkest form
Cradling my soul with its suffocating pain
I surrender my heart under the shade of the weeping willow
For the weeping willow weeps with me

This is a very beautiful and deeply moving poem, Lilac Wine, one that is darkly melancholy and profoundly sad, yet with such tremendous and effective imagery in it, that it is an exceptional pleasure to read. It is about as well written as it can be and a great comliment to your impressive poetic talent. Carl. (Report) Reply

This poem is very beautiful. The emotions synchronise very well with the words that have been written, it seems, with pain and tears. (Report) Reply

An eloquent expression of passion & absolute melancholy....Inveterating and serenely toned....Smooth structure, like a coin tossed across an icepond....Lilac, i liked this piece very much...

This is such a great write, like you were just pouring raw feelings straight onto the page,
No clever rhyming pattern needed, no obvious structure and yet soooo brilliant, now that's the sort of poetry that I love
Take care and thankyou for this AMAZING PIECE OF CRAFT

Someone once said that if we never feel pain we will never know what happiness feels like. At the moment pain seems unbearable, but pain subsides and eases with time. Although it may not seem like it now, but it does. Then something will come along and you will be singing from the roof top and dancing on air. So hang on in there young lady. A beautiful sad poem that is so heartfelt. Top marks and thanks for sharing it.
