In the whisper of a heartbeat,
he was there.
So real, unlike reality,
his memory deep within my soul.
(I won't ask him why he'd come.
I do not want to know) .
Reason, go away, be blind...
I meant to say.
He was just as tall,
his features fine.
Heaven had been good to him.
His eyes held a tear
and his arms reached out to me.
(Don't take away this moment,
Dear God, you've given me!)
Mind be still, don't say a word...
I meant to say.
Dance with me, dream lover,
waltz the love of echoes past.
Burn my flesh with lips of fire.
Hurry, hurry fast
(lest my mind, the devil's advocate,
prayed: ask him why he'd come) .
Don't wake me up and break the spell...
I meant to say.
At last my mind had found the words,
my lips were poised to speak.
The damned alarm. The demon's toy.
In a sound that broke my heart,
the dream was gone and so was he.
I love you and I miss you...
I meant to say.
