Ode to a Honey Bee

I was the sole witness to a murder
To see was a shocking sight
Just wanted to scream
You had no right!
I was so sad to see him die
His friends all did grieve
Watched them in a circle fly
To me it wasn't funny
Hey mister!
Little bee gives us honey
Why did you have to smack him down
Here on earth he does belong
Please mister leave my town
Little honey bee did you no wrong

Bee's are amazing creatures, their social organizations are fantastically disciplined and structured. Why anyone would kill them I do not understand.

Lovely read

Kindness to all creatures, especially to those that are friends to man is expected of all! Killing of any sort is painful to a sensitive heart. A lovely write!

Bees are in trouble at the present time so we need to look after them and certainly not kill them - shame on him whoever he was! ! Excellent write Rachel.

Such a compassionate write, such reverence for life. Even the smallest creatures play an intricate role in maintaining balance within our ecosystem

Many bees get treated the same as wasps and get whacked, it`s such a shame, lovely poem.

I can only add my voice to the chorus of readers who have already affirmed the value and justice of your ode. Humans have a strange relationship with nature, feeling they own it and can kill without check. Are you familiar with this passage from Shakespeare's KING LEAR? AS LITTLE BOYS TO FLIES, SO THE GODS TO US: THEY KILL US FOR THEIR SPORT. But the character who says this is wrong: the gods have not intervened for good or bad; it's humans who are killing their fellow humans. That's what makes cruelty to animals, even insects, so disturbing, it leads to a lack of respect for all life.Well, the speaker in your poem shows considerable courage in speaking out so forcefully.

It reminds me Alexander Pope's write. It may seem trivial but truth is behind it.Very nice Rachel. (Report) Reply

Dead and damned and shut in Hades as a liar from his birth,
