Strange Familiarity

I can feel it enclosing
around me
that familiar fear
Cramping my legs
keeping my stomach nervous
trembling
I escape

to the only safe space I know
Sometimes I need
to be in your presence
to feel your strength
illuminate upon me

so I may feel strong
enough to face my
private battles.
sometimes my solitude
environs me and my
inner monologue takes me

to such strange places.
I'm afraid of my own voice
to utter those simple
words expressing a need
for compassion.

And your kindness
always melts that
away
with a silent
reassurance of
your eyes.
