That Night
That night, dem dudes didn’t give a care,
Pissy drunk and pissed off, lighters ina the air blunts and beer.
That night dem dudes was messed up,
That night dem dudes wanted to shack up.
That night…
That night, dem dudes was crazy rowdy,
That night, dem dudes puff puff pass, they minds was cloudy,
That night, dem dudes was ‘bout pullin’ out glocks to bag a body
That night…
That night, dem dudes poured out liquor, for soldiers they thought they’ed never lose
That night dem dudes was mad superficial, braggin’ about how they got new shoes,
That night dem dudes vowed neva again they gonna be abused.
That night,
That night
That night,
We tough
We rough,
We don’t give a isht,
That night, dem dudes thought about their demons,
That night dem dudes thought about slowin’ down their schemin’
That night
That night…
That night, dem dudes thought about why they was messed up
That night dem dudes wanted to make love, not only sex,
That night dem dudes wanted to care,
Tellin’ each other it’s not treason to want to have a reason,
That night dem dudes thought about stoppin’ cussin’
That night dem dudes thought about lovin’
That night dem dudes drank a little less,
That night
That night
That night
That night dem dudes put down the word that began with “f”
That night dem dudes took back the word “man”,
That night Blackmen knew it wasn’t wrong to think about lovin’
That night Blackmen care about other blackmen who were starvin’
That night was prophetic,
That night was beautiful,
That night was crucial,
When will you have “That Night”?

Hakeem, the street-cred form of this poem adds a message which underpins its epihany eventing. It may disturb but it is brutally beautiful. Rgds, Ivan
