Matthew Weber

The Light

Till the end I will fight
It lies in my fate
Succeed I just might
So I work to create

A light at the end of the tunnel
A goal to achieve
But at times that lights dim
Not easy to see

I try to run towards it
Before it’s burnt out
The light flickers and dies
Drop to my knees, face in hands, and shout

It’s impossible to see
In this tunnel of black
How will I ever reach the end?
Weighted pack on my back

I cry to the Lord,
“Help me Father, give strength! ”
But my cries never answered
Feeling weak, start to faint

I panic and scrap
To grab something around me
But darkness consumes
I fall so hopelessly

Spiraling out of control
Tumbling head over heels
You know this feeling I feel?
When ugliness conceals
Your entire mind and body
Finally hit rock bottom
Reality finally kicks in
All you dreams, you’ve forgot them

There’s only one direction
To go from here
Time to swallow your sadness
And hide all your fear

Get up, dust it off
Fate lies in your hands
And the hands of the Father
Who devised your master plan

What’s that faint sight ahead?
One unseen for so long
The light that was once dead
Now shines bright and strong!

You begin to climb towards it
Getting brighter and brighter
I regain motivation
All that passion and fire

As I rise higher and higher
A new outlook on life
I begin to acquire

I guess God has answered
My pleas after all
Though one sheep strays from the flock
He gathers them all

Again under protective watch of my shepherd
I begin to form a new life for myself
Something better

Though we will fall off course
His love always will find us
No matter how much we struggle
Reminded constantly how glorious
Of a life we truly live
God’s gift to everyone
How you choose to use it is your choice
But a difficult one

Make the most of what you’ve got
Always keep your faith strong
And it’s nearly impossible
For much to go wrong

Never take for granted the Lord
And it’s easy to see
“I can do all things, through Christ, who strengthens me.”-Philippians 4: 13

poet Dante Gabriel Rossetti

Your hands lie open in the long fresh grass, --
The finger-points look through like rosy blooms:
Your eyes smile peace. The pasture gleams and glooms
