The State of Things
When the sonnets sing praises
to the world
and you are the center of my universe,
When school has let out
and
the shopping malls are closed,
When the songbirds speak
with
tulips on their tounges,
When you can't
get John Lennon out
of your head,
I realize that you are Proxima Centauri
and I wake up
to real life.
