Things Fall Apart - Poem by Lex Newman

Things fall apart
Parents make mistakes
Are no longer trusted by the child.
Things fall apart.
Children taken
By the enemy.
Things fall apart.
Soldiers killed in
Friendly fire.
Things fall apart.
Citizens banished
For something they didn’t do.
Things fall apart.
Children injured
From their own parents’ fury.
Things fall apart.
Tears pour down their cheeks
For his tragic suicide.
Things fall apart.
Oh, they fall apart.
Things fall apart.
