Meiner Schwester liebe Sprossen,
Ha, wie seid ihr aufgeschossen,
Seit ich über Berg und Tal
Von euch schied das letzte Mal!
Da ihr wachset und euch dehnet,
Sonnenzeiger unsrer Tage,
Mahnt ihr, wie das Leben jage,
Das ihr fest und ewig wähnet.
Kinderwuchs und Abendschatten
Zeigt dem Wandrer auf dem Steige
Abgemähter Blumenmatten,
Wie sich ihm die Sonne neige.

poet Emily Jane Brontë

I am the only being whose doom
No tongue would ask no eye would mourn
I never caused a thought of gloom
A smile of joy since I was born

In secret pleasure - secret tears
