Nikolaus Franz Niembsch Edler von Strehlenau

(25 August 1802 - 22 August 1850 / Schadat)

Zweierlei Vögel

Strichvogel Reflexion,
Zugvogel Poesie,
Singt jeder andern Ton
Und andre Melodie.

Strichvogel hüpft und pfeift
Und pickt von Ast zu Ast,
Und höchstens einmal streift
Zu Nachbarn er als Gast.

Er ruft: Freund! bleib im Land
Und redlich nähre dich;
Es wagt um Fabeltand
Ein Narr nur weiter sich.

O halte deinen Flug
Von Meer und Stürmen fern,
Die Sehnsucht ist Betrug,
Hier picke deinen Kern!

Zugvogel aber spricht:
Du Flattrer, meinen Flug
Und Zug verstehst du nicht;
Klug ist hier nicht genug.

Du picke immer zu
Und bleib auf deinem Ast,
Wenn keine Ahnung du
Von meiner Ahnung hast.

Doch pfeifs nicht aus als Wahn
Und Narrenmelodei,
Daß hinterm Ozean
Auch noch ein Ufer sei.

Poem of the Day

poet Robert William Service

Three times I had the lust to kill,
To clutch a throat so young and fair,
And squeeze with all my might until
No breath of being lingered there.
Three times I drove the demon out,
